Autobiography

Hi. I am agung, and this is my blog. aquataine is my nickname and it became a more like a branding to me. I love using this name since I began using internet and actively contributed in hacking IRC channels when I was in high school.

When I was a child, I had a dream to become a painter. I often participate in painting competition when I was in elementary school. I play my first guitar when I was 10 and become an die hard punk rocker when I was in junior high school. I was a bassist in a local punk band and doing several amateur gigs. The Clash, Sex Pistols, Ramones and Rancid are my first influences. I tried my first trumpet when I was playing in a friend’s ska band. I participated in illegal mass fighting between junior high school and felt depressed when seeing my friends died on the street. I got my first skateboard when I was 13 and I was a great skater and a good bicycle rider.

I was a hard core video game player. I played atari, NES, Sega, SNES, and PSX. I mostly played game in PSX era and I thought it’s the best game era ever. I love Mario Bros and mostly Hideo Kojima’s and Hinobu Sakaguchi’s works. I had participating in Tekken Tag Tournament national competition but then lost in semifinal.

I was a great kite flyer and able to play all my country’s traditional game. I played in soccer team, basketball team and also participated in badminton competition in school and my local area. I achieved my blue Karate badge when I was 12.

When I was in high school, I played alternative music and had stuck with classic rock for a long time. I like playing Weezer and Spiritualized in my early years of high school. Led Zeppelin and Deep Purple were my first favorite classic rock bands. I rode my first motorcycle and doing my first bike modification when I was in high school. I do love challenges and participated in illegal street race several times. I had badly injured several times because of the race but never give up. I love nature and did hiking and mountaineering with my friends in my high school holiday. I had climbed most of the mountains in Java.

I got my computer when I was in 3rd year of high school and got connected using 56K dial up modem. My first hack was successfully ejecting and closing friend’s computer CDROM drive using IRC protocol. I created and maintained my first hacking web site in Geocities. I was the first who publish remedial instructions of first generation of local Brontok virus.

I was graduating college with informatics degree and doing mail protocols research as my final project. I created a start-up company with friends and did what we like to do. We was doing several dedicated enterprise software projects until getting bored and starting to think and try to realize more creative and innovative ideas or products.

I am a dynamic figure, often seen scaling buildings and crushing ice. I often seen building Legos and breaking them apart. I am relative easy to get bored. I love experiments and don’t like doing the same thing repeatedly. I love trying, thinking or doing something different. I am a open minded, open hearted, free thinker, and sometimes skeptic. I always welcome to new ideas and seek for them. I read hundred books and also criticized them. I like to read Richard Dawkin’s “God Delusion” even I don’t fully agree with his ideas. I asked almost everything and just have answered a few.

I am a proud Indonesian and found a lot of our ancestors’ wisdom and culture are fascinating. I like our musician works in early days but find the music nowadays are bad and degrading.

I am an unselfish lover, an investor in the people market, a rabble-rousing herdboy, and an inspiration for freedom fighters everywhere.

I hear music of almost everything. I think Genesis is much better in Peter Gabriel era, and I much prefer John Lennon to Paul McCartney. I love to hear and explore avant-garde and progressive music and find them always interesting and unique. I think Steven Wilson and Kevin Gilbert are the underrated musical geniuses. I really want to see J. Spaceman before I die.

I don’t watch television and still hear radios. I prefer stereo to any current surround mode and I have designed sophisticated home and car stereo myself.

I like George Lucas’ and Quentin Tarantino’s movies and I think Rodrigo Cortes’ “Buried” was a underrated but great movie.

I think Steve Jobs is great but Linus Torvalds is more awesome. I think Justin Frankel, Matt Mullenweg, and Aaron Swartz are inspirational.

I am a little bit of a perfectionist but sometimes I also criticized perfectionism. I am a pragmatic programmer, humble designer and creative problem solver. I like and enjoy to find the fun of anything.

I love creating value but I am not so interested in profit. I currently believe that profit is just a side effect of adversity, value and innovation. I don’t think monopolistic and centralized market are good ideas but I don’t think full market driven is always good either because I think there always should be something that money can’t buy.

I do leadership in a creative way and I currently realize that science-technology-design-art inspired a better leadership. I think authoritarian and patternalistic do more harm than good.

I love to cook and trying different meals but I cannot eat onion.

I currently don’t need or have any internet social networking account.

This is my far-from-complete biography but I don’t find something interesting or fun yet to complete it.

I am more a dreamer, part of realist and part of critic. Yes, I always have a dream, don’t you?… (continued)
